Peripheral Joint Injections with steroid or PRP (platelet rich plasma)

A joint injection is a minimally-invasive, outpatient procedure used to help treat inflammatory conditions of the major joints, primarily the hip, shoulder, or knee. A long acting anti-inflammatory medication (steroid) mixed with a local anesthetic (numbing agent) is injected into the joint. The steroid helps to decrease the inflammation that causes swelling,
providing relief.

Alternatively PRP ( platelet rich plasma), a concentration of a patient’s own platelets can be injected to accelerate the healing of joints, injured tendons and ligaments. PRP has been found to significantly enhance the healing process and repair.
